College attending: Old Dominion University
Ziad’s story is a remarkable one. He became the “man of the house” at age nine when his father abandoned the family. From that day, his mother relied on him to cook, help with household chores and tend to his younger siblings. Even at a young age Ziad decided to make a choice. He could be like his father, or he could become a responsible, nice, loving, caring person. Ziad chose the latter. He has continued his support of his mother and siblings through high school, while maintaining a part time job and participating in sports. He will attend Old Dominion University, where he plans to prepare for a career as an engineer. Ziad is the sixth and one of the most impressive winners of the Norene Thomas Scholarship. We wish him much success
