About J.E.B. Stuart High School

With one of the most diverse student bodies in the nation, Stuart is a public school located in Fairfax County, Va., about a 15-minute drive from Washington, DC.

Founded in 1959, and now a host of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Program, Stuart’s IB Program has created a renewed respect for the importance of international education in the United States, and has been hailed as a model for programs with similar student demographics.

Within Fairfax County, Stuart ranks first in all three risk factors predictive of low student achievement: poverty, mobility, and a primary language other than English. For example:

  • 60% of Stuart’s students are qualified for free or reduced rate lunch;
  • 69% of Stuart’s students are second language learners hailing from more than 70 different countries;
  • and over 47 different languages are spoken by Stuart students

Despite these challenges, Stuart is consistently recognized among the most successful high schools in the country, with over 90% of graduates pursing post-secondary education.
